A summer annual crop that has a short growing season. Fits into idle time between the harvest of a spring crop and the planting of a fall crop. An early maturing wheat that is suitable for almost any type of soil. Produces small heart shaped leaves with slender, hollow stems. Can be grown for a green manure crop. Also grown in wildlife food plots. Seeds remain on stalk after ripening, providing food for an extended period of time. Seeds can also be ground into flour. Flowers provide a good source of nectar for honey producers. Matures in 10-12 weeks. Quickly killed by frost.
